The Creation of Adam was painted by Italian artist Michelangelo in 1512 as a part of part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. The Renaissance artwork is Fresco painting on ceiling, 280 cm × 570 cm (9 ft 2 in × 18 ft 8 in), depicts the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of Genesis in which God breathes life into Adam, the first man. The ceiling's various painted elements form part of a larger scheme of decoration within the Chapel, which includes the large fresco The Last Judgment on the sanctuary wall, also by Michelangelo, wall paintings by several leading painters of the late 15th century.
